I was having a conversation this past weekend with the host of the Bramwell Oktoberfest… www.bramwelloktoberfest.com/…and we struck upon the idea of possibly incorporating an off-roading trip into the Oktoberfest’s list of events. --- Naturally, the off-roading SHOULD NOT take place on the same day as the Oktoberfest itself (for obvious reasons!), but with the date already set for Saturday, October 10th, that would leave Sunday wide open to go hit a few of the nearby trails. All of this is still in the absolute infancy stage of development, with no firms plans set, whatsoever – but, I think there might be the possibility of perhaps having a parade on Saturday through the town of Bramwell, featuring (among other things) the 4x4 trucks that would be participating in the next day’s off-roading trip… It’s a thought. I would like to get together with some of the Moderators & Members here to have a little Think Tank session, in the hopes of putting together a proposal – followed, soon after, by a meeting with George Sitler to hammer out all of the finer details. Anyone interested? Cheers! Smiley

Maybe I need to set the stage a little…
For the Oktoberfest, practically the entire town is closed off to vehicular traffic – beer drinking is openly allowed in public, with the full blessing of the Bramwell Police Department – and George, the Host of the event itself, just happens to be the Mercer County D.A. (i.e., the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the entire county).
George is interested in working with a group of off-roaders to increase attendance figures… Joining him in this effort and helping to bring more people (and their money) into Bramwell during the Oktoberfest will go a long way to earning the appreciation of the entire community – including the police department.
I understand that some of you may have experienced problems with traffic stops in Bramwell in the past – and I understand your caution and reservations based on those experiences – but I am quite sure, in working with George, that such concerns could be addressed so that they are no longer a problem in the future (or, at the very least, that the issue wouldn't be a problem on certain dates)... either way, it's an improvement.
Moreover, based on the tone of our conversation last weekend, he is not only interested in adding an off-road event to the Oktoberfest, but is also agreeable to the idea of promoting an economic development plan in Mercer County that supports truck-based off-roading.
The police in Harlan, KY were once known to stop and ticket lifted trucks; that is, until the sport of off-roading single-handedly turned their entire local economy around… Now they are allowed to drive around town without a problem. --- The same thing could very easily happen here, too; provided we work toward it.
This is opportunity knocking!
Cheers! Smiley
